France has agreed to start stopping migrant vessels in the English Channel, following months of pressure from the United Kingdom.

The change in policy follows the British leader wrote to the President urging him to support the plan and stating there presently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.

French security forces will be allowed to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've collected their migrants, according to official confirmation.

French authorities have rarely acted to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the shoreline because it is considered too great a risk to both officers and individuals.

"It is crucial that we deploy these methods this month... We have no effective prevention in the Channel."

Now, a French maritime police representative states personnel will start intervening at sea, with the aim of safeguarding lives.

Notably, the spokesperson excluded the use of nets to intercept boats, which had earlier been reported as a possible method to snarl the engines of the vessels.

This determination to intervene at all is a significant step forward, coming after a short-lived shift towards a more aggressive strategy this summer, which dropped off when the former government official departed from government.

This was demonstrated in July, preceding a summit between the Prime Minister and President, when French police were observed walking into the sea to damage the hulls of a boat.

Now French authorities will once more be allowed to stop boats before they collect asylum-seeking passengers from the coastal areas of northern France, although it's not clear how the vessels will be stopped.

Powerful gusts are presently delaying the start of intervention operations and the human trafficking networks will be looking for methods to adjust to evade detection, as they have done so often in the previous instances.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been approached for comment.
